Meeniyan Golf Club
Newsletter – March 2019

Much has happened at the club this year notably good green fee receipts and very successful events.  Hammo’s day continues to be a great event with fantastic sponsorship and over 100 participants

Drummond Day is not quite so well supported but numbers were still very good for this event and the Sponsors were happy with the way the course was presented.

The KB Memorial day held last weekend went very well and Jane was thrilled with the response from the members and committee.  She wanted her thanks passed on to all the members, committee and the organisers of the KB cup. Helping her to bring Ken “home”. The bridges purchased with the majority of the bequest look wonderful and are a fitting tribute to Ken.  A plaque honouring Ken’s generous donation has been placed on each of the four bridges.

The South Gippsland Classic held its Singles Stableford event last week and players reported that the course was in excellent condition.

Twilight golf has finished for this year supported by an enthusiastic group of mainly men who enjoyed it immensely.  They also enjoyed the delicious meals provided by Sheila Constantine and Veronica Park.  The committee and members would like to thank these two people plus Sue Hoskin who ran the competition and hosted visitors.  Quite a few new members joined during the twilight season making it more than worthwhile.

The committee is working on a beautification project around Billy Creek following on from the new bridges.  A partnership with South Gippsland Management Water Board has seen weeds sprayed for us.  The club’s responsibility in response has been to remove parts of trees that were blocking the flow. A very well attended working bee held recently was resulted in much being achieved.  The committee would like to thank very much all that came, for as many hours as they could manage. Many tasks to clear the creek were achieved on that day and Billy Creek will flow much better as a result.  More spraying will be undertaken by SGWMA and attractive plants will be planted to further beautify the creek surrounds. Further working bees will be needed to complete the de-snagging and to plant out these plants.

The board is hoping to obtain funding for a project to overhaul the watering system, however this is a massive project and will take careful planning and require support from the whole membership plus government at all levels.

Membership renewals must be paid by the end of February, however there are a few who are not renewing.  We would love to know why so that we can address any problems.  We feel that we are providing an excellent golf course facility and a friendly atmosphere.  But people have different experiences and we would appreciate knowing reasons for failure to renew memberships.

The honour boards have been updated by Kara Rickard except for the Ron Trease Singles board which will need a new board and update.

newsletter-september-2016 Presidents Corner As people are aware by now there has been changes made to staff. After my discussion with Denise, she decided not to take on that position. The Club will be developing a list of volunteers who will be willing to help cover Clubhouse hours.  Please contact me or Bill if you are interested in being placed on a volunteers listing. The weather has been fairly good to us, and...

newsletter-april-2016 Presidents Corner It has been a hard time with the lack of rain but the course is in great condition, we are hopeful that we will get our water sooner rather than later. We are ready to proceed with the turfing of the tees but once again we are waiting on water. We have a new pathway from the 1st green to the 2nd tee which eliminates the walk back up the fairway into on-coming golf balls. Finally I would like to thank all volunteers that have helped at the course, inside the clubhouse and out. Paul Course Update Members...

Newsletter October 2013 The general and greens committee have been toiling away while the winter months have come and gone to run your Golf Club. Spring is here with it’s changeable weather, one day hot and dry, next wet and windy. The district looks lush and green and so is the Golf course, so close to having the back nine open but then down comes the rain in buckets again. It will be worth it when the weather finally hardens up a little which will be only a short time now.   TWILIGHT GOLF Twilight golf begins on Friday 15th November...
