NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2013

The back nine is finally open and the course now looks magnificent. What a difference it makes when we get a fine week of weather. I am sure David and Rob will be most relieved, because now they can start to work on some of the other pressing jobs they want to complete.

CHANGE OF DATE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Due to the compulsory adoption of the new Model Rules we have taken the opportunity to implement a few necessary changes to the rules

Because we are in transition it has been decided to postpone the Annual General Meeting from November to February. This will enable the new committee to operate by the new rules which come into effect hopefully by Christmas . The current committee will continue until then. The new committee will take office at the February Annual General Meeting.

TREVOR HOLLINGSWORTH RETURNING 15TH DECEMBER. CONTACT SENDER FOR TIME SLOTS. LAST TIME FOR A WHILE.

WEBSITE

We have a brand new website which will be going live by the end of the month. Make sure you have a look at it. We need it to get lots of “hits” so that it comes to the top of the list of other old Meeniyan Golf Club sites. We have details of the course, hiring details, lots of photos, news, etc. We will publish the syllabus on the members only portion of the site which will be protected by the need to enter a password available only to members, our events section list the remaining events for the year and will be kept up to date so members who have not been at the club for a while can know what is happening. I think it will prove to be useful and will give casual golfers the opportunity to “find” Meeniyan Golf Club.

TRIVIA NIGHT

trivia

A most enjoyable Trivia Night was held last week attended by about 80 people. The night was won by the Meeniyan Progress table, but the scores were extremely close, and hotly contested. David did a great job with the questions and as Master of Ceremonies keeping the night moving along.

ONCOURSE TOILET

The much awaited toilet has begun to be installed and should be operational before Christmas Congratulations to the lady members who have scrimped and saved from sale of second hand clothing and the like to raise this money. They suffered a set back with the collapse of SESI but have continued over roughly ten years to accumulate enough money to go with a grant from the Gardiner Foundation to complete the project.

PHONE NUMBER CHANGES

WE ARE COMPILING THE NEW SYLLABUS – IF ANYONE HAS A CHANGED PHONE NUMBER PLEASE LET US KNOW SO THAT IT CAN BE CORRECTED FOR NEXT YEAR.

CATERING

We have been busy with quite a lot of catering lately, the Veteran golfers, Eileen Dorlings funeral Christmas parties corporate dinners. Wonderful work from our catering co ordinators. The catering committee is in need of a person to oversee this committee, jobs include ordering food for catering with the help of Denise and the current leader Veronica. Keeping records of the catering completed. ie. Keep the catering book up to date. Help to recruit volunteers to work at outside functions. We already have Tanya Thorson to oversee twilight and our club catering have groups allocated to complete. The catering is so important to the club finances so please everyone, not only lady members can you step up for this vital job.

CAMP DRAFT

Our most necessary and hopefully very successful fundraising effort this year is the Camp Draft. We hope all members can help with this event as your fees do not cover anything like the operational expenses of this club. Naturally we cannot triple the fees but this would be something like what is necessary to cover our costs. There are not enough of us to be sustainable, but with your help we can keep the club going.

Please try to make yourself available for some of this volunteer work.
